Research Proposal

Questions Being Addressed and Proposed Method of Answering:

1)      How can a universal theme have so many different variations from which it is constructed?
a.       With this, the obvious is not going to be analyzed, those “obvious” being literary devices such as irony, personification, etc. Instead, there will be far more analysis into the narration technique, and once again not the common narration techniques like first person, second person, etc. In their place will be a far more critical analysis of abstract narration techniques – abstract meaning they have not been coined through literature.

2)      How strongly does an author’s background influence the theme? Following this, HOW does an author’s background influence the theme?
a.       To address this question, the themes in both books will be thoroughly explained. In the case of this research proposal, the authors of the two different books read are not the same. Thus, if a critical moment in one of the author’s life can be related to both themes, it will hold self evident that an author’s background in fact does not influence the theme. If a critical moment in one of the author’s life cannot be related both themes, but only one theme, then in fact the author’s background can in fact influence the theme of the book. If a critical moment in one of the author’s life cannot be related to both themes, then it can be concluded the author’s previous experiences are independent of his writings. Many other cases exist, but a theory is still in progress in regards to this with warrants.

3)      Are there oxymoronically methods to address themes? E.g. Can the theme of “war is bad” be addressed through peaceful literary construction?
a.       Since both books circumvent around the motif of violence, each will be examined through how peaceful the connotation of literary construction comes to fruition.
